Delhi – The Capital of India

The capital of India, Delhi, has a very rich and long history. It was under the rule of many powerful leaders, and has been the capital of their kingdoms as well. The city has been continuously inhabited since 6th century BC. Since then the city has seen a diverse range of kingdoms and cultures thrive on its soil. Today, the city sees an unique conglomeration of ancient culture fused with modern lifestyles. 1. Red Fort

The Red fort was made more than 200 years ago by the Mughal emperor of India. Today the fort houses many museums. On 15th August, the Independence Day of India, the Prime Minister of India hoists the national flag, and also addresses the nation from here. Rest of the year, it is a tourist destination.

2. Lotus Temple

The Lotus Temple in Delhi was completed in 1986. It is the House of Worship for the Baha’i faith, serves as its Mother Temple for the Indian Subcontinent. It has become one of the prominent attractions in the city because of its unique architecture. It has been facilitated with various prestigious awards as well.

3. India Gate

India Gate is a war memorial located on the Raj Path. It was constructed in memory of the 82000 soldiers of British Indian Army, who laid their lives in the First World War. Between 7 pm and 9.30 pm, the memorial is lit up, and forms a sight to see.

4. Jantar Mantar

Jantar Mantar is a sundial built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur. It was used for various astronomical calculations, and to predict the movement of various celestial bodies.

5. Qutub Minar

The Qutub Minar in Delhi, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The height of the tower is 74 meters, and is the second largest “minar” in India, after Fateh Burj in Mohali. The construction work was started in 1199 CE.
